    August Round Up

The temperature may still be running high around here, but other than that it definitely feels like it is time for Fall to start.  Before we officially say goodbye to summer though I’m looking back at how we wrapped up this incredibly busy time of year.  If you missed any of my blog posts this month you can check them out at the following links: Changing Things Up in the Living Room My Kitchen Favorites   Our Small Summer Getaways     After the absurdity that was the start of 2018, we decided earlier this year that we weren’t going to take a long family vacation this summer and opted…

How to build a Faux Fireplace – and make it glow!

Disclosure: This post contains affiliate links, meaning, at no additional cost to you, I will earn a commission if you click through and make a purchase.  All opinions are my own. I had a few questions pop up about how I went about installing the faux fireplace in our front room, so I decided to write a more detailed How To tutorial on my process.  Unfortunately I did not take a ton of pictures while I was building, but I think I was still able to break it down for those that want to follow alone at home.  If you’d like to check out the full reveal of this room,…

    March Round Up

Decorating Easter Cookies with Kids   My nieces unexpectedly slept over the other evening, so I planned for one of my favorite things to do with them – decorate cookies.  I’m not gonna lie, trying to manage 4 kids and a potentially messy situation can get a bit crazy!  But over time I’ve put together a few tricks to make the experience enjoyable for everyone. Make sure that each kid has their own space – I set everyone up at my island and give the two little ones stools so they can reach.  Each kid gets their own plate and their own set of cookies.  I also keep my boys…

Adding personality and character to your kitchen

Welcome to part 2 of my kitchen journey!  Last post I shared some of the tricks I’ve started using to get organized so be sure to check those out if you’re looking to tame some clutter yourself – but this time I’m going to be delving into some of the tricks I’ve used to add personality and warmth to my builder grade kitchen (I even persuaded a friend to let me poke around and share some of their kitchen inspiration!) To start, let me take you back to what our kitchen looked like when we moved in.  We built our house through a builder 3 years ago in a small…

Living Room Next steps + Shiplap Tips and Tricks

First some quick housekeeping –  If you haven’t noticed, I’ve been slowly making some changes over here in preparation for a really exciting project I’m going to join this fall (I promise I will tell you all about it soon) and the biggest change was that I’ve decided to brand this little project of mine with a name – so I am happy to officially introduce you to Hilltown House!  I’ve got some more changes planned to the look of the page (and am very lucky to have in-house support to help make that happen – thanks husband) so look out for those too.  I’ve also started to post a…

BIG DELIVERY! + the Living Room Plan

Happy Sunday!  We just had a BIG delivery that I am so astronomically excited about and have been wishing for since we moved in – so without further ado I am please to present our new couch – Since we moved we put together two couches from our townhouse – the one used to sit in our living room and really didn’t see much use (except from the dog) and the other one was the loveseat from our basement….funny story, we actually had to sell the matching couch with the house because we couldn’t get it out of the there without destroying it – it was deep and wonderful and…

Mudroom Final Reveal – one year in the making!

I’m not kidding….this is the smallest room in the house and I’ve been working on it FOREVER!  I’m honestly not even sure exactly why, but the wait is over and now I can finally check it off the good old list and share some pics.  The room is very hard to shoot because it doesn’t get any light and is very small, but I wanted to post the final product because it took a lot of hard work. The mudroom is the primary entrance/exit for us so and needed to house mine and Eaphis’ coats and all of our shoes.  We do have a coat closet between the mudroom and…

    Built in Heaven

Last week I took my 2nd annual stay-cation – and the project I decided to tackle this year was a big one….re-tiling my fireplace and adding built ins to either side.   The “bigness” of this wasn’t so much the size, but the amount of detail and planning that was involved in each part of it.  I started with the fireplace and after a lot of discussions between me and myself (and some helpful input from Eaphis!) I settled on a white small subway tile for the surround, and a marble herringbone for the hearth – I know, FANCY right!!  I had re-done our fireplace surround in our first home while…

Big Boy Bedroom – The Final Reveal!

No more #SundaySneakPeak’s for this one – officially moving the boys room to the done pile!  I was on a tight deadline to get this room done before Blake’s bday week, and I finished right on time.  I decided just to share a blog of this room all at once instead of breaking it down, so check out the included links if you want to see the step-by-steps for all the projects or feel free to shoot me a msg and I’d be happy to share my method! I pushed myself building-wise with this one and am actually very proud because I think I was able to bring my skill…

    2 Years In

Happy Memorial Day everyone!!  This year not only does the 2 year anniversary of us being in our new house fall at the same time, but also the 6 month anniversary of Eaphis being at his new job which = a more flexible work schedule and more time spent with us —- so it feels like a great time to take a look back at how far we’ve come before we move forward (and a good excuse to give everything a spring cleaning).  So without futher ado, here is a little before and after of the house (and us) two years ago and today!  I’ve been doing some smaller projects…
