A Warm and Colorful Thanksgiving Table

It’s almost time for my absolute favorite holiday!  Don’t give me wrong, I love Christmas and all the merriment that it entails, but as I’ve gotten older Thanksgiving has become number one in my book.  I was talking to my Mother in Law just today about why that is, and I think it’s because each day of the long Thanksgiving weekend brings along a different kind of celebration from the feast on Thursday, to the yearly shopping on Friday, to the breaking out of the Christmas decorations on Saturday and Sunday.     For the last 3 years we’ve hosted Thanksgiving dinner at our house for mine and my husband’s…

A Halloween Table Fit For a (Evil) Queen

Every year before we venture out Trick or Treating, I invite some family members over for a quick dinner of Braised Short Ribs and Pasta to fuel up for our marathon candy seeking session (you can find that recipe as well as some of our favorite Halloween goodies here).  To make things a little more fun (and a little more spooky) I took my oldest sons “advice” and decided this was the perfect opportunity to use our new dining room for the first time ever!       The beautiful gray velvet chairs and my handmade white table made the perfect backdrop to continue the Evil Queen/Fairy-tale vibe I already…

    Halloween Home Tour

The weather has finally changed, the trees are turning, and it is time to embrace all things Halloween!  My boys just love this holiday – last year they kept the faux outdoor skulls and played with them in the backyard all summer (a little macabre I know) – so I had fun this year turning up the spooky factor in our house.       I try to embrace the creepy more than the scary and I really wanted my Haloween touches to blend in with our style, so to do that I imagined I was decorating an Evil Magic or Curisosity shop (think Borgin and Burkes from Harry Potter…

    Fall Decor Living Room Tour

I wish I  could say I’m writing this on a cool, crisp Autumn morning with the waft of pumpkin candle floating through the house – but the truth is the weather out her has been CRAZY and we have had more hot and humid days than I’d like to admit.  Regardless, that didn’t stop me from channeling my inner Sweater Weather and decking out the living room for fall.  I grew up in a house that changed with the seasons so changing out my decor regularly is something that I really like to do.  Last year I made myself go through all my seasonal decor and get rid of anything…

    Our Favorite Father’s Day Dinner

We’ve been slowly been upgrading our patio this summer so that we can enjoy more dinners outside, so I used Father’s Day this year as an excuse to stock up on a few fun (and super inexpensive!) outdoor dining accessories and throw my husband a simple dinner party with all of his favorites.     I built the patio table last year form these plans and went for more of a modern look by mixing Glossy Black legs w/a Sunbleached wood top, and grabbed these outdoor chairs from Target (which I can’t say enough good things about!  Those cushions are super thick and they dry super fast).  Over Memorial day…

    My Rustic Easter Table

Confession time everyone – as much as I like decorating, I have never been great at putting together a tablescape.  Whenever I host a big dinner or party, I always put a lot of time into planning and preparing the menu, but run out of time or energy before I ever get something cute on the table.  But this year, after a combination of Instagram inspiration and winter boredom, I decided to challenge myself!   We eat Easter dinner at my mom’s house each year, but I’ve been trying to make sure that for every holiday we have some sort of meal at home so I will be cooking Saturday…

    Christmas Living Room Tour

Only 16 days to go folks!  Our weekends are pretty much packed solid until the big day so I wanted to get done decorating early enough to actually be able to enjoy all the holiday feelings.  I mentioned before that I had done a big cleanse earlier in the season, and while I put out some of our usual decor in the rest of the house I tried to only add new stuff to the living room this year (you can check out the full living room reveal here) Maybe it comes from the house I grew up in, but I like to feel like Christmas has exploded onto every…

    Christmas Time Starts…..NOW!

Happy Black Friday everyone!  I usually spend the day shopping by myself but I’m actually pretty much done my Christmas list so today I am going to switch over the house from Thanksgiving to Christmas (and then possibly go shopping tomorrow LOL).  I really enjoyed pushing myself to blog weekly during the One Room Challenge (you can check out my final Guest Bedroom reveal here) so I’m going to try to keep the momentum going and do a Friday post each week if I have something fun to share. To kick off the season I’m sharing a few pics of my mantel decked out for the holidays – which I…

    A New Christmas Tradition……

Happy Holidays everyone!  I have been working feverishly on my laundry room for the last two weeks and now that the washer/dryer are FINALLY IN I plan to put on the finishing touches before the New Year and then will share all of that project….BUT FIRST – I wanted to share a special “project” that put together for my oldest son that I’m hoping will turn into a new Christmas tradition at our house. Last year the lead up to Christmas was honestly terrible at our house.  My youngest son was still too little to really get into the holiday spirit beyond just decorating the tree, but my oldest son…

    Spread the LOVE

Happy Valentine’s Day Everyone!! I was going to get a December/January round-up blog posted first (cross my fingers that I get to that tomorrow) but thought it would be more fun to share what me and the monster’s have been up to for Valentine’s Day First. Valentine’s Day Dessert – Chocolate Mousse with Puffed Pastry Hearts I found this really easy idea on Pinterest to just take a toilet paper roll and turn it into a heart stamp with a simple piece of scotch tape – easy peasy right!   I bought some pre-cut hearts and gave the boys some pink, purple and red paint and thought this would be the…
